⚓ Era of Sails — Update 0.1 | Tidings Across the Seas
World Events have arrived in Era of Sails. Discover The Sea Post, seven new industry buildings, improved mobile music, new sound effects, ship artwork on the world chart, and more.

📰 World Events
The world is no longer entirely content to sit still.
Around 40 different events can now occur across ports and regions, including port fires, hurricanes, failed harvests, blockades, sieges, powder mill explosions, coronations, silver rushes, and more.
Events can affect the world in six fundamental ways:
- Prices — goods may become more expensive or cheaper.
- Stock — supplies may be destroyed or flooded.
- Yield — resource nodes may produce more or less.
- Production — industry may speed up or slow down.
- Construction — ship and building times may change.
- Closures — severe events may stop trading at a port entirely.
⚖️ Protecting the Economy
Price events alter the underlying market value of goods, meaning buying and selling prices move together. This prevents captains from simply buying and immediately reselling the same goods for guaranteed profit.
Stock shocks also happen only once when an event strikes.
Your personal warehouse is never affected by World Events.
Events use weighted rarity, meaning smaller incidents are more common than major events. There is also a 150-minute quiet period between new events and a maximum of six active events at once.
🗞️ The Sea Post
A new newspaper has arrived.
The Sea Post can now be found at the top of the Port page, reporting important events from across the world.
Stories affecting your current harbour are specially marked, making it easy to see when trouble — or opportunity — has reached your port.
A new edition of The Sea Post is printed every day.
Even when the seas are quiet, a quiet edition will still be published. We also fixed an issue where The Sea Post disappeared entirely whenever there was no active news.
🏭 Seven New Industry Buildings
Industry has received a considerable expansion with seven new specialised production buildings:
- 🪚 Sawmill
- 🔥 Smeltery
- 🐟 Salting House
- 💥 Powder Mill
- 🔔 Gun Foundry
- 🥃 Distillery
- ⛵ Sail Loft
The Workshop's 38 recipes have now been divided between their appropriate specialised buildings.
Rope production has also moved to the Ropewalk, which previously existed without actually having a recipe assigned to it.
We also corrected three building rank requirements that could have locked their earliest recipes away entirely.
🎵 Mobile Music Fixed
Several problems affecting music playback on mobile devices have been corrected.
- The music button no longer attempts to mute music that has never actually started.
- Touch interactions used to start music are now handled more reliably.
- An iOS issue involving repeated volume fading has been corrected.
Mobile music should now behave considerably more reliably.
🔊 New Game Sounds
More actions across Era of Sails now have proper audio feedback.
- 🪙 A coin sound now plays after a successful trade.
- ❌ Refused trades remain silent.
- 🔔 A ship's bell sounds when your vessel departs port.
- ⚓ A ship's bell sounds when your vessel arrives.
Departure and arrival sounds are carried across page transitions so they are not lost when sailing immediately redirects you elsewhere.
⛵ Ship Art on the Chart
Ships displayed on the world chart now use actual ship artwork instead of the previous simple glyph.
The artwork has also been heavily optimised:
Before: 1330px / 314 KB
Now: 96px / approximately 4 KB
This gives the world chart proper ship visuals without unnecessarily increasing loading times.
📜 Fair Winds
World Events mean the world can now change around you. Prices may shift, supplies disappear, production slow, resources flourish, and ports close.
Check The Sea Post before deciding where your next voyage takes you.
As always, keep sending us your feedback and reporting anything that does not look right. Many of the improvements we make begin with captains telling us plainly what needs attention.
Fair winds, Captains. ⚓
